I’m ready to be inspired,
she said & I said
that’s not quite how it works,
so instead we sat in the garden,
breathing & watching the bees
until she smiled quietly & said,
I forget it’s that simple.

Sometimes the flow of inspiration stops
to open us to something new.
Perhaps a new way of opening eyes
to see beyond the life we’ve created
as a new mystery rises
to flow us back to where we belong.
This is Life. It’s not always simple.
Until you sit-breathe-watch … and let it be.

Have you ever lost inspiration for life as you know it? I have, again and again.
And every time I do, when I finally give in to the breathing & the watching & the simple appreciation of my life as it is, without thinking it needs to be anything different, inspiration finds me.
It usually takes me right back into what I was doing to begin with (life is like that), and it almost always brings a fresh perspective that infuses me with more of the essence of whatever it is I was doing in the first place.
So as I continue to breathe and watch my gardens blossom this summer, as I venture out to walk by the ocean or climb up a waterfall, I’m doing my best to open beyond what I’ve known to embrace the mystery of what is yet to be.
Wherever you are this summer–watching the bees, sitting in the garden, taking in some new adventure, being disrupted by the state of the world, or staying inspired by whatever life is flowing your way–I send this miracle break to remind you to keep breathing through it all.
Yes, it really is that simple.
